FAQs: General
Can men have the treatment?
Of course. Cosmetic skin treatments are becoming increasingly popular amongst men.
Is it safe?
Yes. All our treatments have a proven safety record and are fully licensed for use within the United Kingdom. Plus you have the added confidence that all of our treatments are administered by a highly trained General Practitioner.
Does it hurt?
Our treatments are non-surgical but can involve some mild discomfort. You’ve probably had an injection before, so you know that the anticipation is always worse than the actual injection itself! For some treatments, a topical anaesthetic cream can be applied to the area to be treated for about 20 minutes, which will gently numb the skin.
How many treatments will I need?
Everyone’s different and it will also depend on the specific treatment you have. You’ll be given more details about the number of treatments needed during your initial consultation.
How will I know whether I require a dermal filler, or a muscle relaxing injection?
During your consultation, the doctor will advise which treatments are most appropriate for you. In general, muscle relaxing injections are most effective in areas of the face where lines and wrinkles are caused by muscle activity, such as frown lines. Dermal fillers are most effective in the treatment of static facial lines. For example, if a wrinkle is still visible when the face is relaxed, a dermal filler is likely to be more effective.
How long will the treatment session take?
All of our treatments involve very quick and easy processes. A treatment generally takes 30 minutes.
What before/aftercare will I need?
After some treatments, you’ll need to avoid hot showers, baths or saunas and vigorous exercise, and rubbing the treated area for several hours. Your clinician will always provide you with written aftercare advice.
Will my facial appearance look natural?
Some celebrities have appeared in the news because they have had excessive amounts of facial cosmetic injection and have had a rather unnatural, obviously enhanced result. Here at the Brewood Aesthetics Clinic we have a clear vision of the ideal aesthetic outcome and will only offer treatment that gives a natural looking, final aesthetic result. Treatment with dermal fillers is not intended to radically change your facial appearance and should not make you look unnatural.
Are there any side effects?
These are very safe and simple treatments when performed by an experienced doctor. Side effects can occur such as redness, swelling, mild pain and bruising. Substances that can increase bruising include aspirin, Vitamin E and warfarin. The doctor will discuss these potential side effects in full during your initial consultation.
How much does it cost?
The initial consultation is FREE. During the consultation your clinician will discuss individual treatment requirements, the number of treatments likely to be needed and specific costs.
How can I pay?
We accept most debit and credit cards as well as cheque or cash payment.
FAQs: Wrinkle Reduction Using Muscle Relaxing Injections
What is injected?
Botulinum Toxin Type A is a purified protein produced by the Clotridium Botulinum bacteria. It has been safely used in medical practice for many years to treat muscle spasm.
How is the treatment administered?
During treatment, minute doses are administered via tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles. Each treatment can normally be completed in just a few minutes and recovery is almost immediate.
What parts of the face are injected?
It is most effective in areas of the face where lines and wrinkles are caused by muscle activity. The three main areas most commonly treated for the reduction of facial wrinkles are: frown lines between the eyebrows; forehead wrinkles; and ‘crow’s feet’ lines at the side of the face.
How does it work?
The treatment works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces the activity of the muscles that cause persistent lines to form.
When will I see results?
You should see a marked improvement in the moderate to severe frown lines within days of receiving treatment, and lines can continue to improve for up to a fortnight.
How long does the treatment last?
The effect is temporary. The beneficial results from treatment usually last for up to six months, although this can vary according to the individual. Repeat treatment is recommended every four months to maintain your new look. If you discontinue treatment, the wrinkles will gradually return and you will simply look like you would have done without any treatment. There are no permanent effects.
Who should not have this treatment?
Injectible muscles relaxants should not be used by ladies who are pregnant or breast feeding, or by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to this treatment. It should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site. Patients with neurological disorders may be at increased risk of serious side effects. It should not be used in patients with any condition affecting the ability to swallow, or with chronic respiratory problems, or in patients who are currently taking Aminoglycoside antibiotics (e.g. gentamicin or clindamycin). Rest assured that during your consultation, the doctor will take a full medical history to ensure that you are suitable for treatment.
FAQs: Dermal (Skin) Fillers
What are dermal fillers made from?
We use dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid, known by the commercial name Restylane. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body and helps the skin retain the soft supple quality of youth. As we grow older the amount of hyaluronic acid declines, resulting in the development of lines and wrinkles. By replenishing nature’s supply of hyaluronic acid, Restylane diminishes lines and wrinkles giving a softer, more youthful look.
Where are dermal fillers used?
Dermal fillers are most effective in the treatment of static facial lines, rather than lines caused by muscle activity. They are particularly effective in treating the deep furrows that extend from the nose to the corner of the mouth, and from the corner of the mouth to the chin.
How soon will I see results from dermal filler treatment?
You will see the result immediately, as facial lines will be much reduced straight away.
How long does it last?
The effect is temporary. The beneficial result will typically last for up to twelve months, although this can vary according to the individual. Repeat treatment is recommended every nine months to maintain your new look. If you discontinue treatment, the filler is gradually absorbed naturally and the lines will slowly return. You will simply look like you would have done without any treatment.
Who should not have dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are extremely safe, but there are certain situations where they should not be used. For example: by ladies who are pregnant or breast feeding, or by individuals with a known hypersensitivity to this treatment. It should not be used in the presence of infection at the proposed injection site.
Rest assured that during your consultation, the doctor will take a full medical history to ensure that you are suitable for treatment.
FAQs: Skin Rejuvenation
What is Restylane Vital Light made from?
Like all Restylane products, Restylane Vital Light is made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid has been used safely in cosmetic procedures for many years.
How does Restylane Vital Light work?
Restylane Vital Light works by replenishing nature’s supply of Hyaluronic acid in order to rejuvenate the skin. Restylane Vital Light is naturally integrated into the skin where it helps to restore skin hydrobalance, improve skin structure and the elasticity of the skin. This is accomplished by the water associated with the stabilized hyaluronic acid in the gel. The unique characteristics of the gel help maintain the effect for a long period of time.
What does treatment involve?
During treatment, Restylane Vital Light is injected into the dermal layer of the skin using a fine, single use needle. A course of treatment consists of three treatment sessions at 2-4 week intervals. We recommend a touch up treatment at 4-6 months followed by further touch up treatments as necessary, generally at 4-6 month intervals, depending on the individual needs of the customer.
How soon will I see results?
The effects of treatment are usually visible 6-12 weeks after the start of the initial course of treatment, with significant improvements in dermal elasticity 6 months after initial treatment.
How long does it last?
The effect is temporary, and the length of effect is very individual, with the duration of the beneficial results varying considerably according to the individual. To maintain the look touch up treatment is necessary on average every 4-6 months after initial treatment. If you discontinue treatment, the product is gradually absorbed naturally and your skin will slowly return to its previous look. You will simply look like you would have done without any treatment.
FAQs: Lip Enhancement
How can dermal fillers enhance lips?
There are many different types of lip enhancement products available in the UK. We prefer to use Restylane Lipp which has a proven safety record with over 9 millions treatments worldwide. Small quantities of filler can be injected into the top and bottom lip to create fuller, plumper and younger looking lips. Other Restylane products can also be used to reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles around the mouth.
How soon will I see results from lip enhancement treatment?
You will see the result immediately, with the full effect seen after two weeks.
How long does lip enhancement last?
Although the results vary from one person to another, the results of a lip enhancement treatment with dermal fillers can last for up to six months on average. Repeat treatment is recommended every six months to maintain your new look. Dermal fillers are gradually broken down and absorbed by the body, so eventually, your lips will return to their previous appearance without top-up treatments.
FAQs: Hyperhidrosis
(Injectible Treatment for Excessive Underarm Sweating)
What causes excessive sweating?
Excessive sweating can occur in the hands, in the armpits or in the feet, and can be caused by over activity of the sympathetic nervous system.
How does the treatment work?
Sweat glands are stimulated by nerves that release a chemical called acetylcholine and cause sweat production. Small doses are administered via tiny injections directly into the vicinity of the sweat glands, blocking the release of the acetylcholine and thereby temporarily reducing or abolishing sweat production.
How long does treatment of excessive sweating?
The effect is temporary. The treated areas are noticeably drier after about three to four days and remain so for, on average, four to seven months.
